Merpati, PPA told to move to cut spending

New State-Owned Enterprises Minister Dahlan Iskan has told national flag carrier Merpati Nusantara Airlines and state-owned asset management company PT PPA to move their headquarters to cut spending.

Dahlan said he wanted Merpati to move its main office closer to
Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Tangerang, Banten; or to Hasanuddin International Airport in Makassar, South Sulawesi.

“Merpati's current office in Kemayoran is too far [from Soekarno-Hatta]. It should be closer,” Dahlan said on Tuesday in Jakarta, as quoted by Antara.

A move to Makassar, however, is unlikely, as it would affect about 1,000 Merpati employees.

PPA, meanwhile, has been told to move its main office from the Sampoerna Strategic Square tower to the State-Owned Enterprises Ministry building, both of which were located in Central Jakarta.

“[PPA] will officially move in the first quarter next year,” Dahlan said.

He added other state-owned companies would also relocate to the State-Owned Enterprises Ministry’s office complex or closer to their principal work areas.
