PKS approaches pop singer, actress for Sukabumi election

The Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) says it is approaching pop singer Syahrini and veteran actress Desy Ratnasari, both of who are Sukabumi born, to help it win the mayoral election of the West Java town scheduled for 2013.

PKS Sukabumi chapter official Achmad Fahmi said on Tuesday in Sukabumi that either of the celebrities would be partnered with a PKS member who would run for the mayoral seat.

Among the PKS members who may represent the party in the election are lawmaker Yudi Widiana Adia, PKS West Java chapter official Deden Muhlisin and Sukabumi Council deputy speaker Achmad Fahmi. The three of them have received the most support from other PKS Sukabumi members.

“We've started making overtures to the two Sukabumi-born artistes to support [either of them] in the 2013 Sukabumi mayoral election. That is because Desy Ratnasari and Syahrini topped our survey of potential [Sukabumi] leaders,” Achmad said as quoted by Antara.

He explained that according to the survey, Desy and Syahrini were the most popular candidates, defeating other figures such as Sukabumi Deputy Mayor Mulyono, Sukabumi administration secretary Muhammad Muraz and Democratic Party lawmaker and former celebrity Inggrid Kansil.

“We started sounding out Desy Ratnasari and her family long ago; hopefully they'll respond positively,” Achmad added.
