Standard Chartered Bank (SCB) Indonesia
launched an audio-based Automated Teller Machine (ATM) for blind
people on Wednesday in Jakarta.
“Indonesia becomes the first country
in ASEAN to have an audio-based ATM,” said SCB’s general manager
for distribution, Franky Tanudjojo, as quoted by Antara news agency.
Similar machines can be found in Korea,
India, China and Saudi Arabia.
SCB Indonesia, which named the machine
the talking ATM, opened the ATM in its headquarters office at Menara
Satrio and its branch office at Atrium Mulia Kuningan.
Another machine will be available on
Nov. 9 in its Surabaya office.
SCB Indonesia said that customers of
banks that joined the ATM Bersama network could use the talking ATM
as well.
