Transjakarta to increase drivers' wages

The Transjakarta Management Body (BLU) says it is looking into increasing the wages of its drivers to 3.5 times the provincial minimum wage.
“If agreed, we plan to increase the wages of Transjakarta drivers,” BLU Transjakarta chief Muhammad Akbar said Thursday, as quoted by tribunnews.com.
The minimum wage in Jakarta is currently Rp 1.3 million (US$147) per month. Therefore, if the plan goes through, Transjakarta drivers would receive around Rp 4,450,000 per month.
Muhammad said, however, that an increase in wages would automatically mean more duties and bigger responsibilities for the drivers.
