Gold medalists to receive Rp 200 m bonus, sport minister promises

Youth and Sports Minister Andi Mallarangeng said that the government will reward the country’s SEA Games gold medalists with a Rp 200 million (US$22,500) bonus.

He explained that unlike bonus systems in the past, this time every individual athlete that wins gold will be awarded the bonus, even if they were part of a team.

“So it will now be distributed evenly among them. In the past a men singles winner would receive Rp 200 million, but double players would have to divide the reward in two and volleyball players would have to share it among six. It will not be like that. Now, every athlete that wins gold will receive a Rp 200 million bonus. Doubles receive Rp 200 million each. Volleyball players will also get Rp 200 million each,” he said Friday as quoted by tribunnews.com.

Andi, who was accompanying Vice President Boediono in inaugurating the Indonesian SEA Games contingent in Jakarta, added that silver medalist would receive a Rp 50 million bonus, while bronze winners would receive Rp 30 million.
