The 2011 Indonesian Music Expo (Imex) will be held in Peninsula Island of the Nusa Dua area in Bali from Nov. 7 to Nov. 14.
Event initiator Franki Raden said in a press conference in Denpasar on Friday that the Imex was held to motivate traditional musicians to be able to express their music at the international level.
“Traditional Indonesian music is currently well-known by the international community, but only a few groups have been able to penetrate the global market,” Franki said as quoted by Antara news wire.
Indonesia, he said, had cultural diversity and richness, including in music, adding that all regions across the country had their own unique styles of music.
The event will feature 40 Indonesian music groups, including Toba Ensamble (Sumatra), Kulintang (Sulawesi), Sambasunda (Bandung), Rindik (Bali) as well as foreign groups such as TLJ Alliance (United States), Hunny Madu (Malaysia) and Jack Lee & SKY (Korea).
The Imex event will also feature an exhibition of carved guitar by I Wayan Teges, a famed Gianyar carver, a seminar titled “Identifying Indonesian Music Potency in the World Market” and a workshop on how to make digital music with Professor Schiemer.
