Expert questions Jakarta’s drainage work

A- A A+

An expert from Trisakti University has questioned the quality of the drainage work in Jakarta, especially the work hurriedly being done on Jl. Sudirman.

“I notice that the administration is racing with time in the project due to the SEA Games, some of which are being held in Jakarta,” he said on Saturday as quoted by tempointeraktif.com.

He said the local administration had made a mistake when it opted to carry out the projects close to when the SEA Games were being held. He said that earlier in the year would have been a far more appropriate time for such projects.

The Jakarta administration’s public works agency is currently in the middle of upgrading the city’s drainage system as part of efforts to alleviate flooding during the rainy season.

The timing has drawn much criticism, to which Public Works Agency deputy chief Novrizal has responded that the work will be postponed until after the SEA Games are over.
