Indonesian migrant workers advocacy task force spokesman Humphrey Djemat says 44 Indonesian workers in Saudi Arabia are soon to face trial for crimes that carry the death sentence.
“Six of them have avoided the sentence by being granted leniency by the families of the victims, while most of the others are still facing trial,” he said on Saturday as quoted by tempointeraktif.com.
He added that two workers were currently in a dire situation as the family of the victims were not willing to forgive them. The workers are Tuti Tursilawati from Majalengka, West Java, and Siti Zaenab from Madura, East Java.
“We are fighting for them both,” he said.
According to Arab tradition, people sentenced to death can gain their freedom on the condition that the family of the victim forgives them.
