Police chief welcomes return of peacekeeping unit from Sudan

A- A A+

National Police Chief Timur Pradopo on Monday proudly welcomed the return of the country’s Formed Police Unit (FPU) III from their peacekeeping duties in Sudan.

He praised them as being the best out of all other police units from across the world that had assisted with the United Nations (UN) peacekeeping mission.

“We were accepted by the public over there and that shows that we did not take sides. We mingled well with the people. This was what we maintained, which earned us the trust of the UN,” he said on Monday in Jakarta, as quoted by kompas.com.

The Formed Police Unit consisted of 152 personnel, dispatched to instill peace, the majority of which were based in the conflicted region of Darfur.

Timur said that to maintain the trust of the UN, the police would continuously evaluate the performance of each FPU.

“Basically, this is a standard assignment for humanity causes, which of course goes through preparation and evaluation stages,” he said.

The FPU III’s role in Sudan will be replaced by FPU IV.
