Another police officer shot in Papua

A Mobile Police Brigade (Brimob) officer, First. Brig. Marselinus Gua,was shot in the face and left shoulder on Monday while patrolling within the PT Freeport Indonesia mining area with his team.

Marselinus has been hospitalized at Tembagapura hospital in Mimika.

“He will be sent to Jakarta to undergo further medical treatment,” Amole security taskforce chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Alexander Louw said Monday as quoted by kompas.com.

The Amole task force comprised of police and army soldiers that is tasked to maintain security within PT Freeport Indonesia mining compound.

The latest shooting incident adds to a long list of violence in Papua that has claimed countless lives, mostly locals. Three weeks ago, the head of Mulia Police, Comr. Dominggus Awes was shot dead by two men who had taken his firearm.
