Cisangkuy Dam bursts: Residents on alert

Hundreds of people residing on the banks of the Cisangkuy River,West Java, are on the alert after a dam upstream burst following excessive rainfall.

“The dam burst but fortunately [the water] hasn't reached my house yet,” Okim, a resident whose house is situated closest to the dam, said Monday as quoted by kompas.com.

Asep Kusuma of Malakasari subdistrict administration said the dam, which was built by the Public Works Ministry, was likely made with low-quality materials.

“It’s obvious, because if the dam had been made with high-quality materials it would still be standing,” he said.
