The Jakarta Tourism and Culture Agency has called on the textile industry to make use of the upcoming Southeast Asian (SEA) Games event to promote Indonesian textiles to foreign visitors.

“Jakarta and Palembang will be the hosts of the SEA Games 2011. This must be taken advantage of by textile entrepreneurs to promote the diverse range of Indonesian textiles to guest countries,” the agency’s deputy chief Tinia Budiati said Tuesday in Jakarta, as quoted by tribunnews.com.

Speaking at the Indonesian Textile Festival in Jakarta’s Textile Museum, Tinia said that the SEA Games, which would welcome 11 participating countries, were the perfect opportunity to introduce Indonesia’s rich culture

“Let’s promote Indonesian textiles to the world and introduce all the cultural and textile heritage that we have,” she said.
