All forms of funding distributed from private entities to state apparatus such as police are strictly prohibited under the existing regulations, Imparsial program director Al Araf said Monday.
Al Araf also cited that both the law on the National Police Law and law on the Indonesian Military clearly mention that funding for both forces solely originates from the annual state budget.
“We distribute funds for security needs with centralized funding, therefore it is the central government's authority to distribute funding to police and the military. Anything that comes out from outside the government is strictly prohibited,” he said Monday as quoted by kompas.com.
The comment was made in response to the recent admission by the National Police chief that his officers had received US$14 million from PT Freeport Indonesia (FI) for their assistance in securing secure the mining giant's operations in Papua.
