State railway company Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) will gradually upgrade its ticketing booking system starting in November, and will complete the transition in January 2012.
“The online ticketing system will be changed to a new web-based system called Rail Ticketing System,” spokesperson of KAI Purwokerto zone 5 operations Surono said Wednesday as quoted by Antara.
He said that in the first phase, the new system would only be implemented for executive class, business class and economy class tickets.
Surono said he hoped that the new system could facilitate and accelerate ticket purchasing.
He said that train users could book tickets through state-owned postal firm PT Post Indonesia, Contact Center 121, drive-through or mobile ticketing offices, cellular phone and Internet.
They would receive a booking code that should be paid within a maximum of three hours of the booking.
He said KAI was optimistic that the new ticketing system would be in full operation in January 2012.
