Responding to recent public calls for the abolishment of regional graft courts after the acquittal of several high profile defendants, Supreme Court chief justice Harifin Tumpa has urged the public for calm.
“We need to be wise in handling this kind of problem. Let’s study first what has really happened here before we make any decisions,” Harifin said Tuesday as quoted by tempointeraktif.com.
If the public insisted on abolishing regional graft courts, then the corruption court law would also need to be revised, since it orders the establishment of regional graft courts.
Many graft activists and officials have expressed their regrets over the recent acquittal of numerous graft defendants at several regional graft courts, saying that a comprehensive investigation should be carried out to
re-asses these cases.
