Motorcycle sales in Indonesia grew 11.4 percent to 6.9 million units between January and October, up from 6.2 million units in the same period last year, according to an executive.
“PT Astra Honda Motor [AHM] sales grew more than the national growth rate. AHM's sales as of October grew by 24.6 percent,” AHM deputy executive president director Johannes Loman said Friday in Bandung, West Java, as quoted by Antara news agency.
Honda's sales growth was led by scooter sales, which were up 50.4 percent, followed by under-125cc motorcycles at 25.7 percent, larger-than-125cc motorcycles at 13.2 percent and sport motorcycles at 10.7 percent.
Johannes said AHM sold 3.6 million motorcycles in the first ten months of the year for a 52.2 percent share of the national market, up from 46.6 percent in the same period last year.
AHM might sell 4.3 million motorcycles by the end of the year against projected national sales of 8.1 million units, Johannes said.
“The Thai floods have had very little impact because AHM only imports CBR motorcycles from Thailand.”
