Citibank officials are set to testify as witnesses in the trial of former Citibank relationship manager Inong Malinda (aka "Melinda Dee"), who is being charged with the alleged embezzlement of bank customers' funds, a lawyer says.
“According to prosecutors, the witnesses will be [Citibank corporate lawyer] Rizki Marjuki and staff including Pauline and others,”
Melinda Dee’s lawyer, Batara Simbolon, said Monday as quoted by kompas.com.
Earlier, prosecutors demanded that Melinda be sentenced to 15 years in prison for her alleged infringements of the 1999 Law on Banking and 2010 Law on Money Laundering.
Melinda is said to have embezzled more than Rp 44 billion (US$4.93 million) from the bank’s premium clients.
While reading out the indictment at a previous hearing, prosecutors alleged that Malinda received the money through 117 illegal transactions, 64 of which were processed in local currency and 53 of which were in US dollars.
