KPK told to hunt for Nunun’s backer

An NGO has urged the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) to extend its investigation to seek out the figure who has protected graft case fugitive Nunun Nurbaetie.

“Nunun was merely a courier. She wasn’t the one who owned the [bribe] money,” Emerson Yuntho of Indonesia Corruption Watch (ICW) said Sunday as quoted by tempointeraktif.com.

Emerson added that the KPK could ask for assistance from the Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center (PPATK) to trace the origin of money given to Nunun and later to lawmakers as an alleged bribe surrounding the 2004 central bank senior deputy governor election.

Besides asking for help from the PPATK, Emerson also urged the KPK ask for help from the National Intelligence Agency (BIN).

“The current BIN chief isn’t from the police … The KPK could use this situation to their advantage,” he said.

Nunun Nurbaetie, the wife of former National Police deputy chief Comr. Gen. Adang Daradjatun, has been named a suspect in a graft case that has seen dozens of lawmakers sent to prison for accepting bribes in relation to the 2004 BI senior deputy governor election.
