A strong earthquake measuring 6.4 on the Richter scale shook North Maluku at around 11 a.m. on Monday, the region’s Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) reports.

“Until now there has been no reports of deaths or damage. The North Maluku BPBD is still working and obtaining data connected to the impacts of the quake,” the agency said on Monday.

The earthquake was felt in Ternate, causing residents to panic and rush out of their houses.

According to the agency, the epicenter of the quake was 699 kilometers southwest of Labuha in North Maluku, and had not triggered a tsunami.
