Eight graft convicts have asked the House of Representatives’ law commission to reprimand the Law and Human Rights Ministry over its decision to deny them the right to parole.
“Deputy Minister Denny Indrayana has denied their [parole] rights,” the convicts’ lawyer, OC Kaligis, said on Tuesday as quoted by kompas.com.
He said the ministry’s decision to issue a moratorium on remissions and parole was against the law as well as the United Nations’ Convention against Corruption, which Indonesia had ratified.
Kaligis said he had asked Commission III to use its oversight right to instruct the government to comply with regulations.
The eight convicts represented by Kaligis are Paskah Suzetta, Bobby Suhardiman, Ahmad Hafiz Zawawi, Hengky Baramuli, Max Moein, Engelina Patiasina, Ni Luh Mariani Tirtasari and Budiningsih.
