The South Jakarta Prosecutor’s Office has confirmed that graft defendant Malinda Dee has submitted a letter requesting to be placed in a special air-conditioned room while she awaits trial.

“There was a letter to the court. We received a copy. It was received last week, if I’m not mistaken,” the prosecutor’s office chief, Masyhudi, said Wednesday, as quoted by tribunnews.com.

The letter cited Malinda’s ill health as the reason for the request. “It mentioned her being ill. There is a medical record. But I can’t recall what the illness was,” he said.

It was reported that prior to her hearings at the South Jakarta District Court, Malinda Dee had been staying in the court’s air-conditioned Re-education Bureau (Bapas) room, while other defendants had to wait behind bars in a detention room.

She has also been seen being ushered by up to 10 personal guards, as well as those from the police and prosecutors, as she makes way to the courtroom.

Masyhudi denied providing special treatment for Malinda Dee, and said that everything done by the prosecutors and the court in connection to the defendant was according to proper procedures.
