Despite its planned transformation, the state-owned insurance company PT Jamsostek will cover dialysis, cardiovascular surgery, and treatments for cancer and HIV/AIDS as of Dec. 1, 2011, to increase the benefits for workers undergoing healthcare programs.
Director of Jamsostek’s service affairs, Djoko Sungkono, said on Wednesday that Jamsostek would provide up to Rp 600,000 per visit, for a maximum of three visits per week, for dialysis treatment; Rp 80 million annually for cardiovascular surgery; Rp 25 million per year for cancer treatments; and Rp 10 million per year for HIV/AIDS patients.
“Only workers meeting all administrative requirements will receive the additional health benefits. Patients seeking the additional health service will need a letter of reference and recommendations from their employers and their public health center,” Djoko said.
As its main requirements, additional benefit recipients must have been registered with Jamsostek and paid their contributions regularly for at least one year, while their employers must have participated in the social security programs for at least one year.
He said Jamsostek has disseminated circulars to all public health centers and hospitals that are its partners in the healthcare program, to facilitate recipients obtaining the additional healthcare benefits.
Asked for the reasons behind the initiative Djoko, who was recently appointed to his current job, said before Jamsostek was transformed into a public company in July, 2015, it had an obligation to improve its service to all its clients in accordance with its financial capabilities.
He said further that Jamsostek would provide equipment to workers and companies, mainly construction firms, to reduce the risks of occupational accidents. “The fewer occupational accidents that occur, the less Jamsostek has to pay in compensation,” he said.
He said Jamsostek would also cover medical checkups for workers aged 40 or over, and give Rp 2 million in burial assistance to the families of any workers killed in occupational accidents.
