Vietnam’s soccer coach is praising his rivals following the team’s 2-0 loss to Indonesia on Saturday.
“Indonesia has played well; they were too strong for us. We initially wanted to play offensively but Indonesia pressed us,” Falko Gerd Gotz said after the match on Saturday as quoted by tempointearktif.com.
Gotz said that his players’ concentration was broken in the 61st minute when Patrich Wanggai scored Indonesia’s first goal.
Wanggai scored on a free kick following a foul by a Vietnamese defender on Indonesian skipper Egi just outside the penalty box.
Such sloppy mistakes, Falko said, cost Vietnam a place in the finals.
“There were a lot of individual errors during the match that Indonesia [took] full advantage of,” he said.
Falko said Vietnam had lowered its sights and was fixing to win the bronze medal when facing off against Myanmar on Monday.
