Two regional figures say they are ready to be nominated as official candidates in the coming Jakarta gubernatorial elections, with clear plans for how to alleviate Jakarta's main problems.
Former Surabaya mayor Bambang DH and Surakarta Mayor Joko Widodo, both members of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P), have both said they are ready to lead the capital.
“As a party loyal member, I must obey my party if it wants me to be a candidate in the Jakarta gubernatorial elections,” Bambang said Sunday as quoted by tempointeraktif.com.
In similar tone, Joko said he would do his best to lead Jakarta administration to achieve better performance.
“I have proven experience in transforming ideas into actions that improve the quality of people’s lives. So I see no obstacles in doing this again for Jakarta if the people want me to be their leader,” said Joko, who is often praised for having rare qualities among Indonesian bureaucrats.
The PDI-P is still deciding which party member to nominate for candidacy in the elections scheduled to take place in 2012. The third-largest party is expected to name its candidate in the immediate future.
