Atut – Rano set to be inaugurated

The Constitutional Court (MK) rejected on Tuesday appeals submitted by losing candidates in the Banten gubernatorial election to overturn Ratu Atut Chosiyah - Rano Karno’s victory in Banten elections.

Banten General Elections Commission (KPU) announced in October that the Atut and Rano ticket had won the election by securing 49.64 percent of the ballot.

Wahidin Halim and Irna Narulita trailed in second place with 38.93 percent, while Jazuli Juwaini and Makmun Muzakki came third with 11.42 percent.

MK argued that the plaintiffs had targeted the wrong object in the appeals.

“They disputed the KPU’s ruling determining governor and deputy governor candidates and not the KPU’s ruling on recapitulation of the Banten gubernatorial election,” MK chief Mahfud MD said on Tuesday as quoted by tempo.co.

Mahfud also said that the Wahidin – Irna pair could not prove their allegations that Atut – Rano had marked up votes.

Mahfud said that the plaintiffs also could not prove their allegations that the Atut – Rano pair had given money to a KPU member.
