Attorney General Basrief Arief has officially deactivated prosecutor Sistoyo, who is under KPK investigation for allegedly accepting a bribe, the Attorney General Office (AGO) says.
“The Attorney General’s decision to temporarily discharge prosecutor Sistoyo has been published this afternoon,” AGO spokesman Noor Rachmad said on Wednesday as quoted by tribunnews.com.
He said that the discharge was a response to the mounting public call for stern action against the prosecutor.
The decision meant that Sistoyo’s monthly wages would be reduced by 50 percent as of December, Noor said.
On Monday, the KPK reportedly caught prosecutor Sistoyo accepting Rp 99.9 million (US$10,890) from a defendant named Edward.
The commission said it suspected the money was paid by Edward, a businessman, to the prosecutor in return for a lightened indictment.
