AKARTA: Radio host and emcee Erwin Parengkuan and his wife, Jana, are looking to cook up success with a new bakery and cake store in Central Jakarta.
Baking has become his wife’s passion in recent years. The shop’s homemade cookies and cakes include many recipes that Jana, who is Javanese-Czech, learned from her Eastern European grandmother.
“We want to make sure that all the ingredients are natural and it’s real food,” Erwin, 41, told The Jakarta Post on Tuesday. “We also try to keep the sugar content low so it’s healthier.”
The father of four said he learned the importance of healthy eating from his restaurant owner mother.
“She made sure that everything we ate at home was healthy, there were no additives or artificial flavor enhancers,” says Erwin, adding that he plans to put his special beet salad on the menu.
Like his late mother, Erwin also wants to have his own restaurant one day. “But we’re starting with Jana’s dream first,” he said.
