KPK still clueless on Nunun

A- A A+

The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) says it still has no clue as the whereabouts of fugitive graft suspect Nunun Nurbaeti, despite a recent report of her being captured on camera while shopping in Singapore a few months ago.

Nunun was captured on camera with another woman in front of a shopping counter in Singapore, tempo.co reported Wednesday. A source said the picture was taken a few months ago.

“We will check on when the pictures were taken. The KPK will investigate the matter privately,” KPK spokesperson Johan Budi said Wednesday as quoted by kompas.com.

“[A KPK] team is still working on this, but I don’t know where Nunun is,” he said.

Johan said no KPK team members looking for Nunun were working abroad. “We are depending on Interpol [to capture Nunun],” he said, referring to the International Criminal Police Organization.

Nunun reportedly first flew to Singapore in February last year. She then returned to Singapore again in March (only a day before a travel ban was issued for her) under the guise that she needed medical treatment for senility.

Nunun had also reportedly been in Thailand, Vietnam and Cambodia.

Nunun is wanted by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) for allegedly disbursing travelers checks to several legislators in return for their votes for Miranda S. Goeltom, a candidate in the 2004 Bank Indonesia senior deputy governor election.

Interpol has issued a red notice to 188 member countries, requesting assistance of local police forces around the world to look for and arrest Nunun.
