Javanese language researchers from Australia, Suriname, Malaysia and the Netherlands are expected to take part in the 5th Javanese Congress scheduled to take place from Nov. 27-30.
“They will attend the 5th Javanese Congress in Surabaya, which will be officiated by National Education and Culture Minister Muhammad Nuh on the evening of November 27,” congress committee member Aryo Tumoro said Thursday in the East Java capital.
“The five-yearly congress will also feature East Java Governor Soekarwo, Central Java Governor Bibit Waluyo, Yogyakarta Governor Sri Sultan Hamengkubuwono X and experts and culturalists from the three provinces as main participants, as well as representatives from other provinces,” he said.
About 1,200 people are expected to attend the opening ceremony, Aryo continued, but only 600 will participate in the four-day congress.
“The participants will be divided into five commissions that will discuss 50 papers selected from 108 papers received by the committee.”
The papers discuss, among other things, how Javanese helps form characters, how it should be taught at schools and how it should be promoted through the use of online media, Aryo said, as quoted by Antara.
