Hudori said that 268 of the deaths were caused by circulation disorders, while 104 deaths were caused by respiratory disorders. Other causes of death included venal, nutritional disorders and various infections, he said.

Hudori added that 76 of the pilgrims who died were from Surabaya, 74 from Surakarta, 48 from Bekasi, 44 from Jakarta and 27 from Makassar.

In terms of age, 303 were over 60, while 90 of the deceased pilgrims were between 50 and 59 years old. Nineteen of the deceased pilgrims were aged between of 40 and 49 and only two were under 40.

“Mecca was the location of most of the deaths with 328 deaths in the city, while the other 45 people died in Madinah,” he said.
