Infrastructure theft causing hazards, delays: PT KAI

State railway operator PT KAI has reported an ongoing loss from the theft of traffic regulator cables, which also creates hazards and delays services, a KAI official says.
“The metal components and cables are stolen and later sold on the black market,” PT KAI’s Jakarta branch spokesman Mateta Rizalulhaq said Thursday as quoted by tempo.co.
He added that the loss of equipment caused significant disturbances to railway traffic.
All train services were brought to a halt at Jakarta’s Manggarai station recently because of a major signal disturbance, resulting from cable theft, Mateta added.
