The Mahakam II Bridge connecting Tenggarong and Tenggarong Seberang districts in Kutai Kartanegara, East Kalimantan collapsed on Saturday.
“The bridge completely collapsed within 30 seconds, just a few seconds after I passed across it,” Amar, a Tenggarong resident, said as quoted by tribunnews.com.
Amar said when the incident occurred at around 4:30 p.m., many vehicles were driving across or stopping on the bridge.
The number of casualties is not yet known.
The 705-meter-long suspension bridge, also known as Kutai Kartanegara Bridge, was the longest bridge in Kalimantan.
The bridge construction was completed in 1999.
