JAKARTA: The Kebayoran Lama Police arrested on Friday one of two criminals who attempted to steal a car by using nail land mines.

The arrest took place on Jl. Ciputat Raya, Kebayoran Lama, South Jakarta, where the suspect, F.J., was almost beaten up by nearby residents.

The robbery attempt took place at around 1 p.m., during which a man named Syamsul Nugroho was driving his car to Simprug.

Syamsul’s rear left tire went flat after his car drove over a nail land mine.

The victim then parked at the roadside to change his tire. As he exited the vehicle, locking the door in the process, two individuals attempted to enter the car, setting off its alarm.

Nearby residents then rushed to the scene and seized F.J., one of the perpetrators, beating him up until the police arrived.

Kebayoran Lama police chief Comr. I Wayan Gede Ardana said that officers were still hunting for F.J.’s partner.
