JAKARTA: A 19-year-old girl plunged to her death from the ninth floor of the Golf Karawaci Richmond condominium in Kelapa Dua, Tangerang, on Wednesday night.
Kelapa Dua Police chief Adj. Comr. Bambang Hari Wibowo said on Friday that after questioning several witnesses, investigators believed that Caroline Oktavianie Tamboto committed suicide because her parents did not approve of her relationship with her boyfriend.
“The victim had been having a backstreet relationship with her boyfriend since she was at junior high school. Before she jumped, she ran away with her boyfriend for three days,” Bambang said.
The Kelapa Dua Police conducted an investigation at the crime scene and had taken Caroline’s remains to the Tangerang hospital for an autopsy.
Bambang said that before she decided to jump, Caroline had found out that her mother had been waiting for her in the apartment and had known that the girl had recently ran away with her boyfriend, Hendra.
“She was afraid that her mother might be mad at her and jumped from the ninth floor,” Bambang said.
The victim was a student at the Pelita Harapan University’s English literature faculty.
