The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) says that it is admired by various countries all over the world for its statistics abilities, citing the fact that Indonesia has been named a leader of the several statistics committees.
BPS chief Rusman Heriawan pointed out that Indonesia had been appointed to chair the Asia Pacific Statistics Committee, the ASEAN Statistics Committee and as deputy chair of the Islamic Nations Statistics Committee.
“Being the Asia Pacific Statistics Committee chairman is a first in Indonesian history. The result of the recognition is that a lot of countries have been coming to Indonesia to study statistics,” he said, as quoted by kompas.com.
Rusman said, however, the BPS still had to improve upon a number of its weaknesses such as its delivery of data to the public.
He said the biggest challenge for the agency is to explain data in such a way as not to lead to public misinterpretations.
