Search for bridge collapse victims to go on for nine days: Police

The search for missing victims of the Mahakam bridge collapse in Tenggarong, Kutai Kartanegara, East Kalimantan, will continue for nine days, the local police say.

Kutai Kartanegara police chief Sr. Comr. I Gusti Kade Budhi Harryarsana said that 60 divers have been dispatched to search for the 22 people that were reported to still be missing.

“We have also prepared heavy equipment,” he said Sunday, as quoted by kompas.com.

On Sunday morning a search and rescue team, along with the police water and air unit, was deployed to dive in the Mahakam River, which is up to 50 meters deep.

The latest local police data showed that four people died in the disaster and 39 others were injured, while others remain missing.

The injured victims were being treated at the AM Parikesit hospital in Tenggarong, the AW Syahranie hospital in Samarinda and the Dirgahayu hospital in Samarinda.
