The Supreme
Court has acquitted Yohanes Waworuntu, a convict in a graft case on online
business registration at the Law and Human Rights Ministry.
Tribunnews.com
reported on Monday that a press release sent by former minister Yusril Ihza
Mahendra stated that Yohanes had been acquitted. Yusril was also implicated in
the case.
Yohanes, the director
of PT Sarana Rekatama Dinamika (SRD), previously received a five-year sentence
and was ordered to pay a Rp 200 million fine by the lower court.
According to the
release, Yohanes was acquitted after the acquittal of the ministry’s former director
general for legal administration, Romli Atmasasmita, in the same case in
December last year.
The case revolves
around alleged graft in the creation and management of an online registration system
established by the Law and Human Rights Ministry and PT SRD. The case allegedly
caused Rp 420 billion (US$46.6 million) in state losses.
