3 candidates set for KONI chairmanship election

The National Sports Committee (KONI) has announced that three candidates will compete in an election for a new KONI chairman for the 2011-2015 period.

“Hendardji Soepandji, Tono Suratman and Djati Waluyo passed the verification stage as candidates for KONI chairman,” KONI selection committee secretary Arsyad Ahmadin said Tuesday as quoted by Antara state news wire.

Hendardji Soepandji is the chairman of the Karate-Do Indonesia Sports Federation, Tono Suratman is the Indonesia squad chef de mission for the SEA Games and Djati Waluyo is the KONI secretary-general.

Arsyad said Indonesian Chess Association (Percasi) secretary-general Rusdi Taher had been knocked out in the verification stage.

He added that the KONI chairmanship election would be held at the National Sports Council (Musornas) in Mataram, West Nusa Tenggara, on Dec.1 and Dec. 2.
