State media say that dirty needles at a private clinic in central China are to blame for an outbreak of hepatitis C that has sickened at least 13 people, including many children.
The Global Times newspaper said Tuesday that health officials in Anhui province reported that as many as 56 people in Woyang county may have been infected with hepatitis after getting injections at a clinic in neighboring Henan province. So far, 13 have tested positive for the virus.
Henan is the same province where unsanitary blood plasma-buying schemes and tainted blood transfusions allowed HIV to gain a foothold in the 1990s.
