As a form of apology to the people of Kutai Kartanegara (Kukar), East Kalimantan, Regent Rita Widyasari has announced plans to build a museum or monument near the location of the collapsed bridge in memory of the dead victims.
“We apologize to the citizens for this tragedy, which we never expected to happen,” Rita said Tuesday as quoted by tribunnews.com.
She also apologized to the mining industry whose vehicles have been unable to make the crossing until the evacuation process is complete.
In order for businesses and activities to resume as normal, Rita said her administration would facilitate the crossing of the river by boat.
“We plan to build a dock so that people can cross from Tenggarong to Tenggarong Seberang. At the moment the public works agency and the transportation agency are looking for the nearest spot to the site of the collapsed [to build the ferry dock],” she said.
