Lawmakers skip Abdullah KPK leadership hearing

A- A A+

A hearing on Tuesday, in which Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) leadership candidate Abdullah Hehamahua was scheduled to face questions from the House of Representatives legal commission, has been postponed because the meeting failed to meet quorum.

Only 14 of 55 commission members were present at the meeting, the rest (including three of the commission leaders) were absent for unclear reasons, kompas.com reported.

Abdullah is among the less favored candidates because of his renowned uncompromising standpoint during his two past tenures as KPK advisor.

Experts have suggested that many politicians fear losing their grip on power if Abdullah claims the KPK chair.

Many graft activists, meanwhile, have said Abdullah was among the few public officials who was down to earth and who set a good example for the graft eradication effort.

On many separate occasions, Abdullah himself had vowed not to bow down to any interests and intended to pledge a massive war against corruption.
