Police quiz 6 bridge repair workers

A- A A+
Investigators from the National Police and the East Kalimantan Police say they are questioning six workers employed by PT Bukaka, the company that was carrying out renovations to the Kutai Kartanegara Bridge before it collapsed on Saturday.

“We will continue with the questioning of the six witnesses. They are workers with PT Bukaka, the firm working on repairs,” National Police chief detective Comr. Gen. Sutarman said Tuesday, as quoted by tribunnews.com.

He stressed that the PT Bukaka workers were being questioned as witnesses and refused to speculate on the possibility of negligence on their part.

He said that the six workers were among 11 witnesses the police are looking to question as part of their initial investigation to determine the cause of the bridge’s collapse.

Besides the workers, the 11 witnesses consist of a few people from the party that signed the renovation work deal with PT Bukaka, as well as several survivors of the disaster.

According to Sutarman, the police aim to question around 40 survivors regarding the tragedy.
