Fauzi Bowo asks residents to dredge waterways

The Jakarta administration has urged all citizens to prepare for forecast high rainfall from December to February.

“I also call on residents to clean out the garbage from waterways…,” Jakarta Governor Fauzi Bowo said on Wednesday as quoted by Antara news agency.

Fauzi added that the public's participation was needed to control flooding in the capital city.

Many people believe that Jakarta is hit by a major flood every five years, with the last one occurring in 2007.
