Forestry Minister Zulkifli Hasan says he supports the Industry, Trade and Finance Ministries' decision to ban rattan exports.
Earlier this week, Trade Minister Gita Wirjawan officially signed a ministerial decree banning the export of rattan raw materials.
Under the decree, signed Wednesday, rattan exports will be completely halted from Jan.1, 2012.
“I fully support the ban on the export of rattan as a raw material,”
Zulkifli said Friday in Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara, as quoted by Antara news agency.
He also said the ban would not affect the export of rattan-made products.
“Rattan-made furniture is still allowed to be exported,” he said.
He added that the increase of rattan raw materials available in Indonesia would help boost the economy.
“[This] could provide jobs and could support the creative industry,” Zulkifli said.
