Letters: Fresh uprising in Egypt

A- A A+

A recent uprising and the killing of 23 people in just two days was enough to open the eyes of ruling elites in Egypt.

The recent protests were worse than those after the fall of the Mubarak regime. Thousands of people gathered at the famous Tahrir Square and demanded the resignation of the head of the country’s powerful Military Council.

Due to the lack of a change in Egypt’s situation, sentiments have been running high against the country’s powerful military council. The interim Cabinet has already resigned after massive public pressure. The reality is that after the fall of Mubarak’s 29-year-rule, people feel that they are still very far from their dreams. The country is still facing its worst political and economic crisis. Unemployment is still very high and people are finding it hard to provide for their families.

Several key members of the Mubarak regime are still enjoying key posts in present setup. Only fair and free elections and a minimal role of the military establishment in the new setup can bring positive change.
