The National Police say they will tighten its recruitment process following the dismissal Tuesday of “Bollywood cop” Norman Kamaru after his rise to fame.
The Gorontalo Police decided to dismiss Norman during an ethics code trial presided over by Adj. Sr. Comr. Mahmur in Gorontalo on Tuesday.
Norman was declared guilty of an ethics violation after neglecting his duties for 85 days since Aug. 1.
“It is his choice [to choose a career in entertainment], but we regret it. He has a long future ahead of him and should have considered the matter better,” National Police spokesman Insp. Gen. Saud Usman Nasution said on Tuesday in Jakarta.
“We will evaluate our recruitment process. We will really check candidates' mental preparedness before they can become members of the National Police,” he added as quoted by tempo.co.
Saudi denied that the National Police did not give enough room for Norman to develop his singing and dancing potential.
“That's not true. If he had continued to perform his duties correctly, he wouldn't have been given any sanctions.”
Norman rose to fame after a video of him lip-syncing and dancing to a Bollywood tune went viral on YouTube.
A few months ago, he tendered his resignation to the police force after signing a contract worth Rp 1 billion (US$110,000) with mobile content developer company PT Falcon Interactive, but his resignation was rejected.
