JAKARTA: Adidas launched ‘Tango 12’ as the official match ball for the 2012 Poland-Ukraine UEFA European soccer championship on Tuesday in Jakarta.
The Tango 12 is Adidas’ latest interpretation design rooted in the brand’s classical Tango design, which has been used in the FIFA World Cup, Champions League and the UEFA Euro in the early 1980s.
“This ball’s inner and outer sections are highly developed so that it’s waterproof and provides a much better grip for goalkeepers,” senior brand activation manager of Adidas Indonesia, Monica Ang, told a media conference on Tuesday. Monica added that the skin of the ball is attached by using thermal-bond technology, so no need for any glue or stitches.
The ball has been rigorously tested for an entire year by world-class soccer clubs, including Real Madrid, AC Milan, Chelsea, Ajax Amsterdam and Bayern Munich, in eight countries with various temperature conditions of between -10 to 35 degrees Celsius.
The ball, which is manufactured only in China, is available for sale in Indonesia with a price tag of Rp 1,099,000 (US$120.8) for the official match ball, with take-down products ranging from Rp 99,000 to Rp 399,000.
