Bekasi has allocated Rp 70 billion (US$7.7 million) for the regency’s
elections on March 11, according to an official.
“The funds are for the operation of the Bekasi regency
election commission,” Deputy Regent Darip Mulyana said on Wednesday, as quoted
by tempo.co.
Darip said that the money, allocated from the regency’s 2011
and 2012 budgets, would mostly be spent on operational expenses such as voter data
collection, election equipment and paying poll workers, security guards and
monitoring officials.
The regency’s election commission, however, said that the
allocation was large to cover potential run-off polls.
The commission is currently verifying three slates of
candidates: Sa'dudin and Jamalullail, Dari Mulyana and Jejen Sayuti and Neneng
Hasanah Yasin and Rohim Mintarja.
