After questioning 37 people and not naming a single suspect, East Kalimantan Police says it is taking a cautious approach in determining who was responsible for the recent collapse of the Kutai Kartanegara Bridge.

“We need to be careful in naming any suspects. It is not about speed, but about accuracy,” East Kalimantan Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Antonius Wisnu Sutirta said Wednesday as quoted by kompas.com.

The police have questioned various people as witnesses in relation to the disaster, including contractor workers, the local Public Works Agency, survivors and experts.

From the questionings, they have determined that the collapse of the 710-meter bridge was a result of negligence, but have not yet decided who to be held responsible.

The bridge, also known as the Mahakam II bridge, collapsed on Nov. 26 as heavy traffic was passing it. Dozens of people died in the incident, and many were injured.
