The World Bank plans to invest Rp 74 billion (US$8.1 million) in the development of a 23-kilometer highway connecting the Talang Duku sea port in Muarojambi, Jambi, which is now heavily damaged.

Jambi Public Works Agency head Ivan Wirata said the initial stages of the development would begin along the 1.5 kilometer road section from Simpang Limbo to Alam Berajo bus station.

“The 1.5-kilometer road section will be upgraded and widened by up to 15 meters in order to ease the traffic to the port,” he said Saturday as quoted by Antara news agency.

Ivan added the road was always busy and congested with traffic.

He said that the construction of about nine kilometers of the road out of a total 23 kilometers would be funded by the Jambi city budget.

He added that the damaged road had also constrained the transport of cargo from the Talang Dukuh port.
